Dear Parents/Carers,
New Reception Foyer at the front of the school
We would like to let you know that building work will commence on the new reception foyer from the 24th October. These significant works will create new office space, a new waiting room, a new learning support room, a covered area and overall improve our ability to welcome and work with parents, whilst keeping children safe and secure. This work will however take an approximate 14 weeks and during this time our usual front entrance will be closed. This will obviously cause some disruption to normal school life but will be well worth it in the end.
We would like to let you know that the temporary access plans will be as follows:-
Start of day
- Children and parents will access the school via the drive to the side of the school. There will be no vehicle access from 8.30am to 9.15am.
- Children and parents will be met by Miss Channing at the small gate at the rear of the school, and generally, Mr Condon and Mrs Selway will be at the front of the school, alongside Mrs Harvey on crossing patrol duty. Unfortunately, the enforceable zig zags do not extend far enough down on the residential side of the road so there will be parking cones placed on the road to assist the children crossing.
- Children will be welcomed into the playground by Miss Channing by the small side gate.
- Any parents who need to visit the school office will be invited to access the school via the playground. The only door that will be open is the one at the end of the school by the School Office.
- Children will still be able to ride their bikes and scooters to school and they will be stored in the playground. These will not be kept undercover.
End of day
- Infants will leave their classes at 3:10pm and will leave by the small gate. They will have set positions in the car park where they can stand with their classes before passing children across to parents. We hope this means that a significant number of children will have left by 3:15pm.
- We will ask Year 4 to arrive at the small gate promptly by 3:15pm with other KS2 classes following. Going out in register order down the corridor and exiting through the door at the bottom of the corridor and then going directly out of the small gate.
- Children who walk home will exit the school first, followed by anyone being collected will follow out after all the other children have left.
- If the KS2 parents are not in the car park, children will be asked to line-up along the railings outside the staff room.
- There will be red and white hazard tape put up each day from the railings at the end of the portakabin to the Community club so that it can help teachers to send their children to their parents as quickly as possible. Please can we ask that you congregate in the space in front of the Community club.
Breakfast club / Morning clubs
- Children to access the school via the black doors just before the entrance of the lane to the car park. This entrance is however on a steep incline and the builders are putting in a temporary hand rail which will offer support if needed. If, for whatever reason, you would rather not use this entrance, please phone the school and we will assist you via an alternative entrance.
- Mr Coyne will check every day the entrance and grit every morning.
- Signs will be put up and ultimately, if conditions are too bad we will be unable to use this and we will have an alternative plan put in place.
- A bell will be set up and children can ring the bell if there is no adult on the door.
After school clubs
- Clubs at the end of the day will also exit from the black doors.
- When waiting for your child, please be aware that there is limited waiting space outside on the pavement.
Day time visitors
- We would like to encourage as much as possible for parents to only have access to the school office from 8.30-9.15am and 3.00pm to 3.30pm.
- An new online payment system has been set up for parents to make payments for school dinner money online.
- Any visitors to School of Christ the King will be welcome via the black doors, just before the entrance of the lane to the car park. A temporary bell has been installed. Please allow staff time to walk through the building to answer the door. If we have a disabled visitor or the conditions are poor, the school telephone number is available to call, so that we can offer further assistance.
I would like to thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Matt Condon, Headteacher
