Read for Good
To mark Mrs Higgin’s last day as our reading leader in school, on Friday 25th May we are having a whole-school story time to raise money for the ‘Read for Good’ charity. A donation of £1 per family would be very much appreciated. The money will be used to provide books and storytelling services at Bristol Children’s Hospital.
Here is some information about the charity:
For children in hospital, books and stories are particularly important – they comfort, distract, reassure and entertain. Read for Good provides a regular supply of brand new books along with storyteller visits to brighten up the days of children in all of the UK’s main children’s hospitals. Children unable to leave their beds can choose books from our specially designed mobile bookcase which wheels right up to their bedside. Because they are brand new, the books are safe for those at high risk of infection.

Leave of absence during term time
We must remind all parents that the Headteacher CANNOT authorise any leave of absence during term time unless for exceptional circumstances. Any requests must be made in writing on a form available from the school office and must be made at least ten days before leave is due to commence. Any leave taken that has not been considered exceptional will be recorded as unauthorised. There will be two unauthorised absences recorded for each day - morning and afternoon. If there are eight or more unauthorised absences recorded within a ten week period, the school can issue a penalty notice. This will be £60 per child for each parent, meaning a possible penalty charge of £120 per child.
We appreciate that holidays taken during term time can be much cheaper than those taken during the school holidays but we have a legal responsibility to ensure that every child is attending school and receiving their education.
This Week’s Attendance
Well done to the follow class who have had 97% or above attendance:
- Year 6 - 100%
This means that Year 6 will have a non-uniform day on Friday 25th May.
Celebration of 100% Attendance in Term 4
As you are aware, each term we have a 100% attendance presentation when each class will have a special draw where children can win a new storybook. We enter all children with 100% attendance and who have no more than 2 late arrivals to school.
On Wednesday 23rd May, children who had 100% attendance in Term 4 will be entered into the draw and also be able to wear non-uniform.
Parents of Reception children
We would like to invite you to attend weekly drop in sessions. These sessions will take place between 8.40 and 9am on Tuesday mornings each week. During this time you are welcome to come into your child’s class, read with your child and spend time sharing their learning diaries with them. Your children are proud of their achievements in class and would love to share their experiences with you. Miss Letherby and Miss Harvey will also be available to liaise with you and to support you with accessing Tapestry if needed.
Summer Holiday Chill Time 'Klub'!
We are looking to run a summer club for 2 weeks from 6th August - 10am-3pm. Cost and further details to be confirmed. If you think you may be interested in sending your child to this summer holiday club, please contact the school office. Places are filling up fast. Many thanks.
Friday Morning Coffee Time
Mrs Selway is now hosting informal drop-in sessions each Friday morning. This time will enable parents/carers to meet up and perhaps seek support and advice. Mrs Selway can offer advice and also provide links to other organisations who offer support. If you have a worry of any kind, or just would like to have a chat with other parents and carers - pop in!
