Dear Parents and Carers,

Breakfast Klub is Back!

We are pleased to announce that Breakfast Klub will start again, after the holiday, for children in Reception - Year 6.

However the way in which we are organising the club is changing as well as a moderate increase in costs:

  • The cost is now £1.50, which includes breakfast (please note that children will not be given breakfast if they arrive after 8.20am)
  • Parents and carers will need to pay using the School Gateway app - we cannot access cash payment.
  • Due to the new system, we are asking for parents and carers to make a minimum payment of £7.50 (covering 5 sessions) which will avoid the school paying additional fees.
  • To access the School Gateway App the office needs your email address on the system
  • All sessions must be booked online using the School Gateway app by 7.30am at the latest, for each day being booked.

Unfortunately we cannot yet offer Breakfast Klub for nursery children. This is because of the need for a higher level of staff supervision needed. We are planning to welcome nursery children to a breakfast club as soon as possible.

Relationship and Sex Education Consultation

Please see the previous newsletter regarding the Relationship and Sex Education consultation.

Medical Appointments

The start and end of the school day is very important and it has become noticeable that children are being collected early for different appointments. Please can you make these appointments for out of school hours.

When there is an unavoidable appointment, we will request evidence to authorise the absence.

Unfounded Allegations

Recently, we have been made aware of an allegation that a member of staff ‘grabbed’ a child when dealing with a playground problem. Rather frustratingly, the allegation was not shared with myself, but was shared with parents at the end of the school day. There is no evidence that such an incident took place and the child involved is clear that it did not happen.

It is very worrying when such allegations are made in public through hearsay and gossip, without the school being informed, or being able to respond.

Most of all, it is very upsetting for adults when such unfounded allegations are made without being able to directly respond.

Obviously, if any child or adult has legitimate concerns, we would investigate fully and treat all matters seriously.

Attendance

No classes managed above 96% attendance this week.

Places Available

The school is almost full but we do have some space available in a number of year groups. If you know somebody who might need a school place, please ask them to contact the school office.

RSE Parent Consultation

Dear parents and Carers

In the academic year 2020/21, Relationships Education and Health Education has become statutory in all primary schools in England. This new subject builds on the non-statutory lessons we have previously taught in Relationships and Sex Education (RSE).

As part of implementing the statutory RSE curriculum, schools must consult with the children, parents, staff and governors to ensure there is a general consensus on our approaches to policy and the curriculum content.

We will be starting the consultation process on  Tuesday 25th May; the consultation will close on the Monday 7th June 2021. As part of this we would like to share the proposed curriculum changes by inviting you to read the draft RSE Policy.

As a Catholic school, our mission is to support the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of all of our pupils, rooted in the wisdom and teaching of the Church. The education of children in human sexuality is an important, precious and privileged responsibility. The Church teaches us that this is very much a partnership with parents, in which parents are the ‘first educators’ of their children on these matters; ultimately, you confer on us the right to co-educate your children with you.

We have been researching various programmes that are available and have decided to adopt Life to the Full by Ten Ten Resources. Ten Ten is an award-winning Catholic educational organisation that is well-respected and very experienced in this field of work.

Life to the Full has been approved by our diocese.  Furthermore, Ten Ten have entered into a partnership with the Catholic Education Service and the Department for Education to provide training for teachers in Catholic schools on the subject of the new statutory curriculum. Therefore, we are confident that this programme is a very good fit for our school.

Through their programme, Ten Ten understand the foundational role that parents have in educating and nurturing their children on these matters. Within the programme, they have built in resources which will not only keep you informed about what is being taught in school, but will also give you the opportunity to engage your children in discussion, activity and prayer.

We would like to have your feedback on our approach, and particularly on the key decisions that we need to take regarding the teaching of certain topics.  To this end, we have opened a consultation period during which we welcome your feedback.

Ten Ten have provided an online Parent Consultation Tool. This is a simple-to-follow, short online course which:

Outlines the statutory changes that will take place.

  • Articulates a vision for Catholic Relationships and Health Education.
  • Explains how Life to the Full aims to help us fulfil the statutory curriculum with a Catholic ethos.
  • Provides some information about key decisions we need to make, in consultation with parents.

Answers some Frequently Asked Questions.

Ten Ten have also provided an Online Parent Portal which will be a tool we can use throughout the year to keep you informed and updated about the work we are doing in school.

To take part in the consultation, please do the following:

Our RSE Parent Consultation will be concluding on Monday 7th June 2021, but in the meantime, should you have any urgent queries, you may email these to the school office on christ.the.king.p@bristol-schools.uk

The school governors will be taking your questions and comments into account when finalising the RSHE policy. We look forward to receiving your feedback and would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely,

Mr Condon

Dear Parents and Carers,

Firstly, a reminder that school is closed tomorrow for an INSET day.

Any Problems?

If you have a problem or concern, please tell a member of staff.  For an adult to talk to another parent or somebody else’s child about a concern they have, can often make matters worse.

Antisocial Adult Behaviour Around Children

The ethos of School of Christ the King encourages positive relationships amongst everybody. Occasionally adults can behave in a way which is upsetting to other adults and especially children.

The school policy states that the types of behaviour that are considered serious and unacceptable and will not be tolerated:

  • shouting at members of the school staff, parents or children either in person or over the telephone;
  • physically intimidating a member of staff, parent or child eg standing very close to her/him;
  • the use of aggressive hand gestures;
  • threatening behaviour;
  • shaking or holding a fist towards another person;
  • swearing;
  • using abusive/ offensive language
  • pushing;

It also states what action the school can take if the problem persists:

Where all procedures have been exhausted, and aggression or intimidation continue, a parent or carer may be banned by the Head/Chair of Governors from the school premises for a period of time, subject to review as defined in section 547 of the Education Act (1996).

Can all adults please behave in a respectful way towards others, to avoid such action being taken.

Safety at the End of the Day

We have had a number of issues with  children playing unsupervised at pick-up time. This has caused a number of issues and obviously makes us less COVID safe. Can I ask all parents and carers to closely supervise their children at this time.

Also as the children leave at the end of the day, it has been noticed that many parents are gathering and obstructing the pavement crossing. Many children are walking on the road side of the railings, in order to socially distance. As the children leave school, please allow for enough distance between yourselves and the children. Many thanks.
