Dear Parents/Carers,

Punctuality

We are currently doing our best to manage the school safely under challenging circumstances. To support this we have timetabled all children to come in at specific times so we can ensure that the entry to and exit from school is as safe as possible and can be managed by a smaller number of staff. We are finding it difficult to manage when we have a number of children who are coming to school or collected late. Can I ask all parents and carers to help us by making sure their children arrive at and leave school at the agreed times.

Internet Safety

As many of us are spending much more time both working and playing on the internet at the moment, Google has put together a short, helpful handbook full of tips and tricks for supporting your child’s digital education called ‘Be Internet Legends’.  It reinforces the important online safety lessons your child will have been learning in school, including: smart sharing, not oversharing; knowing what’s real and what’s fake; keeping your information safe; respecting others and speaking up.  You can find the e-handbook here.

Update on Children Returning (a reminder from previous newsletter)

The Government announced last week that schools will not be directed to admit more year groups of children this term, recognising the logistical problems that all schools face in teaching all children in smaller groups.

In the absence of any further guidance, we have carefully considered how to best meet the needs of all children in this school. We are worried that children in Years 2,3,4 and 5 have had no opportunity to be in school with their peers and teachers, since March. To address this we have planned the following for the remainder of Term 6:

  • Our Key Worker Group will continue in school until the end of term - Friday 17th July.

  • Children currently in our Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 Groups will finish 1 week early - Friday 10th July

  • Children in Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 will be invited into school for the week beginning Monday 13th July and finish on Friday 17th July (some year groups may start on Tuesday 14th July). All children will be taught in smaller ‘bubbles’ like children in school presently.

We are sure that parents in Years Rec, 1 and 6 understand that by finishing 1 week early, we are giving the rest of the school an opportunity to spend time in school before the end of the academic year.

We hope that this plan will give all children the opportunity to finish their school year together, feeling happier and looking forward to a summer holiday, the new school year or for Year 6, their new secondary school.

We will share details of these new arrangements in the coming weeks.

We will continue to keep you updated of our plans and any relevant Government announcements.

Summer Reading Challenge

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is now open. Children can enjoy reading over the summer and win rewards at the same time! This year, the Summer Reading Challenge’s Silly Squad will celebrate funny books, happiness and laughter. Children can create an avatar and select different genres of books they enjoy reading. They will then set themselves a target of how many books they will read between now and September. The challenge features games, quizzes and downloadable activities that encourage children to take part in reading. The more you read, the more badges you receive.

You can complete the challenge by downloading ebooks, audio books and online reading resources from your local library.  All the information and how to sign up can be found on the website below.

Filwood Fantastic Mini Golf Club

Fancy playing mini golf? Or making your own home mini golf course during lockdown?  People in Filwood are being invited to join a new online club ahead of a mini golf course  coming to the courtyard of the community centre area later in 2020.  The club is funded by the Filwood Fantastic project at Filwood Community Centre.

There will be online clubhouse meetings, where members of the club can catch up with each other over some snacks before the club opens at Filwood Community Centre.  Those that sign up to Filwood Fantastic Mini Golf Club will also be sent free craft packs, so that they can make bits of their very own home mini golf courses.

To join Filwood Fantastic Mini Golf Club, contact Megan Clark-Bagnall by emailing kwgolfclubhouse@gmail.com or calling 07520 625599. You can also find the group on Facebook.
