Dear Parents/Carers,

Update on COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Yesterday, the Government announced that we are moving from the Contain Phase of the coronavirus action plan and into the Delay Phase, in response to the ongoing Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

Full details of each stage in the government action plan can be found here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-action-plan

To support the delay of the spread of the virus, the Department for Health and Social Care has asked anyone who shows certain symptoms to stay at home for 7 days, regardless of whether they have travelled to affected areas. This means people should stay at home and avoid all but essential contact with others for 7 days from the point of displaying mild symptoms, to slow the spread of infection.

The symptoms are:

  • a high temperature (37.8 degrees and above)
  • a new, continuous cough

You do not need to call NHS 111, to stay at home. If your symptoms worsen during your stay at home period or are no better after 7 days, contact NHS 111 online at 111.nhs.uk. If you have no internet access, you should call NHS 111. For a medical emergency, dial 999.

Current government advice remains in place: no education or childrens’ social care setting should close in response to a suspected or confirmed COVID-19 case, unless advised to do so by Public Health England.

The Chief Medical Officer has advised that the impact of closing schools, on both children’s education and on the workforce, will be substantial but the benefit to public health may not be. Decisions on future advice to schools will be taken, based on the latest and best scientific evidence, which at this stage, suggests children are a lower risk group.

Home Learning and Support

In preparation for a possible future school closure, we are focusing on ensuring children have access to learning at home.

To do this, we are:

  • Planning to use the ‘Tapestry’ App in Reception, to support home learning.
  • Establishing ‘Home Learning Blogs’ for Years 1, 2 and 3 so that the teachers can set the children daily tasks, questions and challenges.
  • Using ‘Google Classroom’ for children in Years 4, 5 and 6 so that children can be given daily tasks by their teachers. The children can respond and teachers are able to give support and feedback.
  • We will be sending work home with children that their teachers will guide them through.
  • Giving children the opportunity to learn and practise using a range of digital apps (e.g Rock Star Maths)
  • The children will be sent home reading books so that they can read every day.

If your child does not have access to a tablet or computer at home, please contact the school office to see if we can help.

In the event of a closure, the school would remain contactable to give support and advice.

Easter Lent Collection

At this time every year, we encourage the children to think of others and raise money for charity.  This year we are going to raise money for 2 different charities, CAFOD and Above and Beyond (local charity raising funds for Bristol city centre hospitals).

So far we have collected:

  • Cake sake = £105
  • Penny Trail = £174
  • Pyjama Day = £135

We have the following events planned to raise money for our Lent collection:

  • Friday 20th March - Crazy Hair Day (bring £1)
  • Friday 27th March - Sponsored Obstacle Course (sponsorship forms to be sent home next week)
  • Friday 3rd April - Grand Easter Egg Raffle - tickets on sale at 20p each from Monday 2nd March.

Parking on the Pavement

Recently, we have had children put at risk from a car, as it drove up on the pavement. Can we ask everybody to park on the road, not the pavement, even if it means parking a bit further down the road. Together we can make sure our children are safe.

EASTER Chill Time ‘Klub’

The last Chill Time ‘Klub’ for the Easter term will be on Friday 3rd April.

To celebrate the last Chill Time ‘Klub’ it will be Easter themed.  Please book and pay in advance if you would like your child to join the Easter chill time ‘klub’, we need to know the number of children who will be attending for staffing - there will be limited spaces.
