Dear Parents/Carers,
Easter Lent Collection
At this time every year we encourage the children to think of others and raise money for charity.  This year we are going to raise money for 2 different charities, CAFOD and Above and Beyond (local charity raising funds for Bristol city centre hospitals).
So far we have collected:
  • Cake sake = £105
  • Penny Trail = £174
We have the following events planned to raise money for our Lent collection:
  • Friday 13th March - Non-Uniform Pyjama Day (bring £1)
  • Friday 20th March - Crazy Hair Day (bring £1)
  • Friday 27th March - Sponsored Obstacle Course (details TBC)
  • Friday 3rd April - Grand Easter Egg Raffle - tickets on sale at 20p each from Monday 2nd March.

Coronavirus concerns
You’re likely aware of the outbreak of novel coronavirus and the subsequent confirmed cases in the UK. At School of Christ the King, we take the health and safety of our pupils and staff very seriously, so we’re sharing guidance from Public Health England on steps you should be taking.
There’s currently no cause for concern at the school, but we’ll keep you informed about any developments and ensure we’re keeping the school clean to prevent the spread of any virus.
How to prevent the spread of infection:
Make sure you and your children follow these general principles to prevent spreading any respiratory virus:
  • Wash your hands often – with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or an alcohol-based sanitiser if soap and water aren’t available
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
  •  Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • If you feel unwell, stay at home and don’t attend work or school
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces in the home

If you’re worried about your symptoms, please call NHS 111 – don’t go directly to your GP or other healthcare environment
EASTER Chill Time ‘Klub’
The last Chill Time ‘Klub’ for the Easter term will be on Friday 3rd April.
To celebrate the last Chill Time ‘Klub’ it will be Easter themed.  Please book and pay in advance if you would like your child to join the Easter chill time ‘klub’, we need to know the number of children who will be attending for staffing - there will be limited spaces.
Proposed Developments on the Broadway
Knowle West Alliance and Knowle West Futures working with local Councillors have secured a pause on the proposed housing developments for the old Cinema Site.  They think it’s important to look at Filwood Broadway as a whole, not just one site, and consider what do we, as a community, want and need; and how can we work together to make that happen?
Please come and have a chat with other locals about what you want at Filwood Community Centre on:
  • Thursday 12th March 3-5pm
  • Friday 13th 5-7pm

Headteacher awards
The Head teacher awards for Monday 9th March are: Braydon (Rec),  Jenson (Y1),  Ronnie and Tracy (Y2), Anta (Y3),  Layah(Y4),  and Courtnie, Bosadee and Harvey (Y6).
Another reminder - Chill Time Klub
The school office is normally manned until 4pm. If there are no staff in the school office, it cannot be guaranteed that the phone or main door buzzer will be answered.
Chill Time ends at 4.30pm.
Multi-Sports and Chill Time Klub
Due to the low number of children attending this term, we will not be running Multi-Sports next term.
However, as so many children attending Chill Time Klub have enjoyed joining Multi-Sports, we will be integrating our specialist sports coaching into Chill Time Klub on Thursdays and Fridays. This means children from any age can choose to join different sporting activities on these days.
Friday Morning Coffee Time
Mrs Selway is hosting informal drop-in sessions each Friday morning. This time will enable parents/carers to meet up and perhaps seek support and advice. Mrs Selway can offer advice and also provide links to other organisations who offer support. If you have a worry of any kind, or just would like to have a chat with other parents and carers  - pop in!
May Bank Holiday - Advance notice
Please be aware of a change to the published May Bank Holiday.  The new Bank Holiday date is Friday 8th May.  This is in order to recognise the national celebration of VE day.
It is very important that all pupils are back to school on Monday 11th May as this is SATs week for Year 6.  All pupils are expected to sit these tests on a set day and at a prescribed time.
