Dear Parents/Carers,

School Blog and Barton Camp
As you will know, our website has a link to our School Blog. This week the Blog features pictures of Year 3 and 4 children at Barton Camp. All 51 children and staff had an amazing time on the edge of the Mendip Hills.

Planning Cultural Celebrations

At Christ the King we are very lucky to have families from such a diverse and rich background. To celebrate this we would like to plan, with parents and the wider community, events which enable us to share and learn together. We are keen to plan opportunities where parts of the community come into school and share their heritage and culture.
If you have an idea for such an event, please come and see me or contact the school office.
Parents’ Evenings
Our first Parents’ Evenings of the new school year are on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th October.  Please contact the school office to book an appointment.
After School Clubs
There are a range of after school clubs starting and information will be published in this newsletter.  We have had a taster session this week for Multisports which will be starting as regular clubs from next week. Letters will be sent home very soon.
We also have an amazing opportunity for children in Years 4, 5 and 6 with the Cosmos Choir which will be starting soon. The choir will be running an after school club on a Thursday from 3.30pm to 4.30pm and children will have opportunities to perform across Bristol. Letters have been given to interested children this week.
Please contact the school office if you would like any further details.
Macmillian Cancer Research Coffee Morning
On the 29th September a small group of parents will be holding a coffee morning raising money for cancer research. The coffee (and tea) morning will start at 9am and will take place in Room 7. This will be a relaxed sociall event and everybody is welcome.
To support this event, donations of cakes will be very welcome.
Important Information Form
An important information form came home with your child last week. We are updating the details we hold for you and your child - please complete and return to the school ASAP so that we can update our system.
Primary school admissions

Reception Admissions for September 2017 is now open on www.bristol.gov.uk/schooladmissions.  Children born between 1st September 2012 and 31st August 2013 must apply for a school by midnight on 15th January 2018.

.Confidence-Boosting Cycling Sessions for Women

The Bristol Family Cycling Centre in Hengrove has teamed up with #ThisGirlCan to offer some confidence-building cycling sessions for women in September.

The fun, 90-minute session will run on September 12 and will be repeated on September 19 and September 23. Women can choose which date to attend.

Instructors from the Cycling Centre will help them with basic bike handling skills such as riding one handed (ready for signalling) and looking behind them. Riders just need to be able to ride a bike (set off and stop independently) – it doesn’t matter if they are slightly wobbly.

Women with children aged 6-14 can bring them along to take part too, as long as they can ride. The session costs just £1 per person and the Cycling Centre can provide bikes and helmets (or riders can bring their own).

The Bristol Family Cycling Centre at Hengrove was set up by Bristol City Council in 2016. It has a range of traffic-free paths and a 400m former athletics track to allow children and adults to perfect their skills and abilities, regardless of age, ability or access needs. The Centre is just off Bamfield. The entrance can be accessed from the bottom right-hand corner of the car park next to Action Indoor Sports. For more information contact cyclingcentre@bristol.gov.uk; call 01275 832800 or visit the Centre’s Facebook page.
