Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s been a great term and we would like to thank you all for your support. The team here is committed to providing excellent care and education for all your children. I am very proud to be the headteacher of School of Christ the King.
Stranger Danger
We have been alerted to an incident that took place yesterday where a primary school child, in a local school, was approached by two adults who asked him to get into their car.
Thankfully, the boy acted very sensibly, not responding to their request and alerting responsible adults quickly.
We will be alerting all our children today and ask you all to reinforce this at home.
BE ALERT, NOT ALARMED!
School Blog and Newsletter Blog
We have a new school blog which can be found on: christthekingblog.blogspot.co.uk
This blog features lots of photographs of life in school and will be updated on a regular basis.
We also now have our newsletters on a blog: christthekingnews.blogspot.co.uk
Both blogs are now linked to the front page of our school website.
Celebration Assembly
The next Celebration Assembly will be on Monday 15th February at 9am, where the following children will receive their Headteacher's Award: Chloe P (R), Jazleen (Y1), Jonathan (Y2), Shenri (Y3), Nicola (Y4), Lucy (Y5) and Demileigh (Y6)
Internet and Mobile Safety
In Key Stage Two during the past few weeks, many problems have been caused by children accessing social media (i.e. Facebook etc) and using it inappropriately in ways that are causing distress to themselves and among their peers. May we remind you that these sites are aimed at people of at least 13 years or over and we have been advised by the police that you, as responsible parents, should be monitoring what sites/APPs your children access. Similar, upsetting, incidents have been caused through inappropriate texting between children. We take these incidents very seriously as they are a form of bullying. If your child uses a mobile phone to text, please ensure that they know how to use it responsibly and are doing so.
Attendance! Attendance! Attendance!
Well done to the following classes who had attendance at over 97% last week:
A massive well done to Year 1 who had 100% attendance this week! They will have a special non-uniform day on Friday 27thFebruary.
Celebrating Great Attendance
As you are aware, School of Christ the King is giving a high priority to improving attendance and good punctuality. A number of initiatives have been implemented in the school, to raise both pupil and parent awareness of this issue and the benefits of good attendance.
One initiative we have started is a whole class non-school uniform day. This is awarded once a week to any class for 100% attendance/most punctual class.
We have also planned a 100% attendance presentation when each class will have a special draw where children can win a new storybook. We will be entering all children with 100% attendance and who have no more than 2 late arrivals to school. Each 100% child will be given a ticket on Thursday 26th February which they need to bring to Friday’s assembly. This ticket also means they can wear their own clothes on Friday 27thFebruary.
Local Clubs
Parents have been enquiring about local clubs for their children. To help we would like to publish contact details of clubs and organisations in the local area. If you know of a good club or group please let us know, so we can share details with the whole school community.
Here are the details of the local scouts who visited recently:
Governor Vacancy
We have a vacancy for a parent to become part of the Governing Body of this school and to join the Finance Committee. This committee is responsible for overseeing the budget and ensuring that value for money is maintained and that funding is allocated appropriately. If you feel you have the appropriate skills to contribute to this work of the school and to attend regular meetings please apply in writing with an outline of your experiences. This is a voluntary post.
Year 1 and Year 2 counting up to 100 day
Today we are on day 95, so on Friday 19thFebruary there will be a celebration for these 2 classes. The children can dress up on this day in something connected to 100. If you are stuck for ideas you can google 100 days of school on the internet.
