Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome to the last newsletter of this school year. This has been an incredibly challenging year for our whole community. Can I thank you all for your support and friendship. The children have responded amazingly and I am very proud of how they have engaged with learning at home and especially proud that a large majority of children have managed to return to school this term. I look forward to a new school year in September, ready to learn with those amazing Christ the King smiley faces!

A Message from Mrs Triggs

 

I would like to thank you for all the very generous gifts and thoughtful cards and messages I have received. It has been a real privilege to teach the children in this very special school. I am thoroughly looking forward to retirement but will really miss all the children and families of Christ the King. Love from Charlotte Triggs.

 

IMPORTANT REMINDER  - Planning for a September Return to School

 

As you now know, Bristol Local Authority have now helpfully shared their own guidance on how they are supporting all schools to return safely in September. Part of this citywide approach is allocating two additional INSET days to help schools prepare.  They are also supporting schools who are planning a short phased return for groups of children.

 

We can confirm that this means:

• That now Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd September will now be INSET days - so the school will be closed to all children on these days.
• We are planning a phased return so that all remaining classes return by Monday 7th September.
• On Thursday 3rd September Years 5 and 6 will return (including Learning Hub 2).
• On Friday 4th September Years 2 and 3 will return.
• On Monday 7th September Years 1 and 4 will return.

 

Some additional information:

• If you feel that your child will need extra support transitioning back and starting in their new year group, please get in touch. Mrs Jordan is available to talk this through with you, so that we can find the best way to meet the needs of your child.
• Although all children will be back in school, in classes of up to 30, these classes will continue to operate as ‘bubbles’ with children not physically mixing with those in other groups.
• Children should wear school uniforms when they return. 
• To ensure parents do not gather outside the school building and can follow social distancing guidelines, each group will have a different start and finish time.
• Current lunchtime arrangements will remain in September - with children bringing in packed lunches or having packed lunches provided by the school kitchen.

Returning Reading Books and IPads to school

Can we ask that any reading books that are at home are returned in September.

We have also lent out a number of IPads for home learning which have been used really well. Can these be returned in September too as children will be using them in class. Thanks.

Summer Reading Challenge

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is now open. Children can enjoy reading over the summer and win rewards at the same time! This year, the Summer Reading Challenge’s Silly Squad will celebrate funny books, happiness and laughter. Children can create an avatar and select different genres of books they enjoy reading. They will then set themselves a target of how many books they will read between now and September. The challenge features games, quizzes and downloadable activities that encourage children to take part in reading. The more you read, the more badges you receive. 

You can complete the challenge by downloading ebooks, audio books and online reading resources from your local library.  All the information and how to sign up can be found on the website below.

Supportive Parents Virtual Hub is now live

This Virtual Information Hub is aimed at children and young people and their families. It brings together information from local partner organisations about services, activities and opportunities available to children and young people while COVID-19 restrictions are in place. Filwood Fantastic Mini Golf Club

Fancy playing mini golf? Or making your own home mini golf course during lockdown?  People in Filwood are being invited to join a new online club ahead of a mini golf course  coming to the courtyard of the community centre area later in 2020.  The club is funded by the Filwood Fantastic project at Filwood Community Centre.

There will be online clubhouse meetings, where members of the club can catch up with each other over some snacks before the club opens at Filwood Community Centre.  Those that sign up to Filwood Fantastic Mini Golf Club will also be sent free craft packs, so that they can make bits of their very own home mini golf courses.

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have had a great week as we say goodbye to our Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children - sadly for the last time this school year. However we are very much looking forward to seeing Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 return next week.

Part of this citywide approach is allocating two additional INSET days to help schools prepare.  They are also supporting schools who are planning a short phased return for groups of children.

 

So far we can confirm that this means:

• That now Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd September will now be INSET days - so the school will be closed to all children on these days.
• Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th September will be used to focus on returning priority groups into school. We have yet to determine who this will be - but we will inform you all next week.
• We are planning a phased return so that all remaining classes return as soon as possible within the week beginning 7th September. Again we will confirm plans next week. 

Obviously all plans are dependent on public health guidance over the summer period. However we are extremely keen that our children return to school as quickly and safely as possible. 

 

Update on Children Returning Next Week

 

We will be opening in the last week of term to children in Years 2, 3 4 and 5:

• Years 4 and 5 will start on Monday 13th July and finish on Friday 17th July. 
• Year 2 and 3 will start on Tuesday 14th July and finish on Friday 17th July .

Children will be taught in smaller ‘bubbles’ like children in school presently. This means that classes will be split into smaller groups and they may not be taught by their class teacher. There will be no Breakfast Club or Chill Time Klub during this week. We will be sharing groups and start/finish times early next week. 

 

This means that Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 will finish their term today - Friday 10th July. 

 

School Reports

 

End of year reports will be sent home today for children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 today. Reports for Years 2, 3, 4 and 5 will be sent home on Tuesday. Reports for any children not in school will be sent home early next week. If you have anything you would like to discuss about the report, please phone the school office and we will arrange a convenient time for the teacher to phone. 

 

Goodbye Mrs Triggs

 

As you will all know Mrs Triggs is retiring this summer after an amazing 36 years in teaching, which means that next week is her last week in school.

 

We wish Mrs Triggs and her family the happiest of retirements.

 

We also hope, when in the future it is safe to do so, that Mrs Triggs comes back into school so we can say thank you - from the school and parish together.

• Fidel, Harley, Bernice and Awele- For sending in their work every single day during lockdown! They have not missed a single piece of work. You are fantastic! 
• Year 4 -
• Justin, Charlotte, Taylor, Kaya, Missey and Alex W for connecting every single day during lockdown! Wow- what an achievement. You have been amazing. 

Year 5 - 

• Anastasia, Emmanuel, Imogen, Gabriel, Jazleen, Nicola and Marta for completing well over a hundred pieces of work during lockdown! Sterling home learning!
• Jayden, Isabel, Dylan and Mimi for their brilliant art work, their great goblin stories and generally being a pleasure to teach.
• Chanelle for quietly working away at home independently without the google classroom and still achieving so much!  Another home learner extraordinaire!
• Patrick for being utterly fabulous during his time at Christ the King.  Wishing you all the best from your class and all at CtK.  We’ll miss you!

Year 6 - 

• 6A - Kezia, Zac, Dimitrios, Gracie, Summer, Courtnie, Wiktoria & Gabie - for being part of the lockdown school team. You have been a strong group of friends that have looked out for one another and made the last few weeks a joy!
• 6B - Angelos, Evie, Ella, Lewis, Katya, Megan - for being an amazing bubble and making the last few weeks such fun. Best of luck for the future. Happy, sunny Summer! 🌞

Dear Parents/Carers of children in Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5,

We are having a great week as we say goodbye to our Reception, Year 1 and Year 6 children - sadly for the last time this school year. However we are very much looking forward to seeing Year 2, 3, 4 and 5 return next week.

Here is an update to help prepare children in those classes (where a place has been confirmed)

Pick-up and drop off of children

To ensure parents do not gather outside the school building and can follow social distancing guidelines, each group will have a different start and finish time. Please stick to the time your child is allocated as groups of children are not to come into contact with each other. You may be asked to come back later if you are late and another group is being let in when you arrive:

• 2 metre markings will be on the fences outside of school for parents and children to wait by.

• Children will enter school via the main entrance or the kitchen entrance (see timetable below)

• If at all possible, just one parent/carer to drop and collect children.

• If possible, do not bring younger siblings in buggies.

• Children must not bring bags – just their packed lunch in a plastic box or disposable bag, water bottle, sunhat and sun cream, if necessary.  

• Please stay outside the school gates and please pass on any concerns or queries via the office email address or phone.

• Current guidance is that it is best not to use public transport if at all possible. For those families for which this is unavoidable, we will provide further guidance from Public Health England on how to travel as safely as possible.

• To help avoid extra congestion around school we ask that as many families as possible walk, cycle or scoot to school. 

Break time and lunch time arrangements

We have organised a strict rota for playtimes and lunch, to ensure groups can access their play zones without contact with other groups.  Children should have sun-hats, sun cream or waterproof coats if needed.

Lunches

There will be no cooked lunches available on site.  Packed Lunches will be made in school and will be available for all  Year 2 children, unless you decide you want to send your child in with a packed lunch from home.  They will also be provided for any children eligible for Free School Meals and Key Worker children attending school who are eligible for Free School Meals.  All other children should bring a packed lunch.  We will inform the catering team of dietary requirements. They must all bring their own clearly labelled water bottle which needs to go home daily to be washed.

Uniform requirements

Children will not be required to wear full school uniforms when they attend school. We ask instead that children wear clean clothes each new day and recommend that clothes are washed at the end of each day. We will be using the outdoor space as much as possible to do physical learning, so please ensure clothing is sensible, safe and good for active PE lessons.  

Important health reminder

Children must not attend school if they have symptoms or are self-isolating due to symptoms in their household. If your child were to become unwell at school they would need to be collected promptly and would remain in an isolation room until collected.  The previous self-isolation restrictions will apply: 7 days for anyone with symptoms and 14 days for anyone else in their household.  Parents should contact school immediately if their child begins to show any symptoms and we can advise on testing and inform other parents in the group. If a child, or adult, in the cohort tests positive then the whole group would need to follow appropriate self-isolation guidelines. Please ensure your child has any medication in school which they would usually take and that it has a label with their name printed on it.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Staffing Update

 

I am very pleased to announce that Mrs Jordan has been appointed as Assistant Headteacher. Mrs Jordan will be working closely with Mr Purser (Deputy Headteacher) and myself as part of our Senior Leadership Team. Her key responsibilities are leading inclusion across the school (including supporting children with special needs)  as well as leading the Early Years and Foundation Stage (including the new nursery) as well as Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2).

 

Update on Children Returning 

 

We will be opening in the last week of term to children in Years 2, 3 4 and 5:

COVID Risk Assessment Check

 

On Wednesday morning we were joined by a member of Bristol City Council's Health and Safety Team as well as a Trade Union Roving Health and Safety Representative.

 

The meeting was overwhelmingly positive and the team were very impressed with the school and how we are all managing this challenging situation. In particular they were very impressed with how the children behaved very safely around the school.

 

We are now officially “Covid Secure!”

 

Planning for a September Return to School

 

The Government have now published advice on how they expect all children to return to school in September.

 

We will now consider any government advice carefully, complete a risk assessment and plan for the return of all children in September.

 

As you know already,  a full return of all children on Wednesday 2nd September is very unlikely, as we need to plan carefully to ensure children return safely, as soon as possible

Dear Parents/Carers,

Planning for a September Return to School

 

In Friday’s newsletter, I confirmed the official start of the school year will be Wednesday 2nd September, which is when the Government has stated that all children will return to school. We are, however, still awaiting Government advice on what any whole school return will look like and how it will be managed.

 

We will consider any government advice carefully, but I want you all to be aware that a full return of all children on Wednesday 2nd September is very unlikely, as we need to plan carefully to ensure children return safely. As soon as we have clarity on this, we will let you know.

 

We are committed to returning children back to school safely, as soon as possible and hope to give you further clarity on the end of term that will help you all with your own planning.
