• Evie for doing some independent writing in literacy, using her sounds to write a short sentence with an adjective ‘my dinosaur is blue’ 

Year 1 -  

• Mouhammad - For working really hard in maths this week while learning to count in 2s and 5s.
• Daiquari - for being kind to his friends and helping them when they need it.

Year 2 -  

• Matty - For always making such a huge effort to read every night at home.
• Frazer - For trying so hard in his phonics group and becoming more confident when answering questions in class.

Year 3 - 

• Antony- For working hard to write a fantastic fable in English.
• Joey - For using his imagination to create a creative jumping sequence in PE. 

Year 4 -

• Freya- For showing resilience and determination to improve her times tables recall. Freya practises on TTRS every evening at home and has been earning more and more coins each week. During our TTRS battle, she was our ‘Most Valuable Player.’ A huge achievement. 

Year 5 -  

• Serenity - for her persistence when adding fractions independently.
• William - for clearly explaining the Easter Triduum and its importance today.

Year 6

• Layla, Hollie and Anya - for outstanding innings in Cricket. They produced the winning runs to contribute to their teams - well done!
• Ellis- for persevering with his understanding of decimals this week.

INSET Days 

Can we confirm that the first two days of the new academic year will be INSET days (Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd September). This means that the school will open for children on Monday 6th September. 

A reminder that the school will also be closed for staff training on Friday 14th May and Monday 14th June.

School Uniform

Please ensure all children are in sensible school uniform - not too small, tight or short.  We do understand that many children will have grown over lockdown and the Easter holidays and that there are not always the right sizes available to buy but please keep trying. 

Here is a reminder of our school uniform:

• PLAIN BLACK shoes or trainers
• grey / black trousers or skirts – no tracksuit bottoms, or leggings
• red sweatshirt or cardigan or fleece
• white / red polo shirts
• PE Kit (which is plain white t-shirt / plain black shorts and PE daps or trainers)

Headteacher’s Awards

Reception - 

• Kiki - for doing some fantastic independent writing about our current book ‘Harry and the bucketful of dinosaurs’. Kiki imagined that the dinosaurs had gone to the fun fair and wrote this on a white board. Well done Kiki!
• Lilanna for showing us her fantastic knowledge of 2D shapes and naming octagon and pentagons and telling us how many sides the shapes have.

Year 1 -  

• Olivia - For concentrating hard during her reading session and not allowing herself to become distracted. Olivia is trying so hard to use her sounds to decode text.
• Lyla - for producing a lovely piece of art work linked to RE, which illustrates some symbols of new life.

Year 2 -  

• Rory - For making a good start to our class and already enjoying being a part of our team.

Year 3 - 

• Lexi- For using interesting similes in her writing. 
• Freddie- For showing fantastic enthusiasm in maths. 

Year 4 -

Firstly, a reminder that due to an INSET Term 5 starts on Tuesday 20th April.

Easter Holiday Track and Trace

I would like to thank you for your continued support, through these unprecedented times. 

Schools are yet again on call to support Track and Trace during the Easter holidays until Monday 5th April 2021. As a  reminder, I have included the expectations to assist in the Track and Trace of confirmed positive cases. This relates to staff  and pupils who have been attending school. 

Please follow the guidance below: 

If a pupil or staff member develops symptoms of Covid-19 before 4pm on Sunday 4th April 2021 and then has a positive  test result the school must be contacted as the person may have been infectious while in school. Please text the school on the dedicated telephone number of 07596 820850. This phone will be monitored between 8:30 – 10:30am from Friday 2nd April to Monday 5th April 2021 to support the Track and Trace with Public Health England. 

If a pupil or staff member develops symptoms of Covid-19 after 4pm on Sunday 4th April 2021 then they should follow  the contact tracing instructions provided by the NHS Track and Trace. School does not need to be contacted.

Doodle Online Learning

To support your children in learning independently, in and out of school, we have purchased the award-winning, maths and English, Doodle programme.

It has been trialled by Years 1,3,5 and 6, who will now be able to access this at home from today - a separate newsletter will include login details.

Your child has already started the programme at school and should be able to log on and work independently. 

The programme is designed to assess your child's level and adjust questions accordingly. Please support your child by encouraging them to learn through the programme. However, please don't be tempted to help them with the answers as this will cause the questions to be incorrectly adjusted. 

The children have been excited by the programme and should be very keen to show you how good they are at using it.

Lent and Easter

World Down’s Syndrome day 

This Sunday 21st is World Down’s Syndrome day. To acknowledge this, on Monday 22nd March we will be talking with the children about our differences and how important it is to treat everybody with respect and kindness.

Packed Lunches

We have noticed children with a lot of high sugar foods e.g. full sized chocolate bars in their packed lunches. Please try to stick to our recommended packed lunch for a child which is: A savoury sandwich OR sausage roll, a standard sized packet of crisps, a piece of fruit and a packet of biscuits or small treat and a drink. This will help the children’s mood and energy levels to be more steady throughout the day. If you would like any support with managing your child’s eating please contact Mrs Selway or Mrs Jordan in the Inclusion office. 

Filwood Cinema

Contractors will be beginning the demolition of the old cinema soon. All work will be managed safely and should not affect families travelling to or from school.

Morning Arrival

Please remember that children who arrive before the time their class is due to come in to school are not supervised around the school entrances and need to be with an adult.

• Kaiden - for working hard at his writing in phonics by using the whiteboard to spell CVC words. He has really progressed in his letter formation and is always very proud of himself when he achieves this.

• William - for having a great attitude towards his learning since returning to school and trying hard to complete his work more independently.

Year 2 -  

• Whole class - For fantastic work based around having the courage to be ourselves and creating our own shape poems using adjectives to describe our character.

• Couture- For making fantastic progress in maths and working hard to practise at home. 
• Freddie- For showing great enthusiasm in English lessons and contributing brilliant, creative ideas. 

Year 4 -

• Declan - for showing great enthusiasm when contributing to our class text, ‘Journey’ and working hard at his fractions alongside Miss Garrett.

Dear Parents & Carers,

Comic Relief Update

We would like to celebrate Red Nose Day this Friday 19th March, particularly as the theme this year is to have some fun, to think about who our superheroes are and to raise money to support people living very tough lives. 

We would like to invite children to dress up as a superhero that day;  this could be someone famous they admire, their favourite hero from a book or perhaps someone in their family who is their superhero; it could be their teacher, teaching assistant, NHS staff, key workers or the amazing Captain Sir Tom - it’s up to them! They could also invent a superhero, if they wish! This does not have to be an elaborate outfit by any means, it could just be a hat or a prop that they bring which signifies their hero. 

If you wish to make a donation of £1 to Comic Relief, as part of this day, please send the money in a sealed envelope to school with your child.

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been wonderful this week having everybody back in school. The children have been incredibly excited to be in school, to see their friends and to carry on learning in school. Can I thank you all at home for supporting your children throughout lockdown, which has prepared them well to return with confidence and lots of positivity.

Red Nose Day

Next Friday (19th March) is Red Nose Day. Although children won’t be able to buy red noses in school next week, we will be encouraging children to wear them in on Friday, whilst wearing their own clothes and for families to make donations, if they are able, online.

Children will also have the opportunity to join in with Red Nose day activities during the day, including a special Times Tables Rockstars Challenge.

• Bryan - for making inferences whilst reading with Mrs Sims.  Also for settling into a brand-new school so quickly!  Really pleased to have you in our class, Bryan!
• Adi - for showing initiative during our writing conferencing session and asking to learn how to do something new.

Year 6

• To Miss Channing for doing a fantastic job teaching Year 6 this week whilst Mr Purser has been away.
• For Year 6 for coming back to school with so much enthusiasm and a great sense of fun!
