Dear Parents/Carers,

We thank you all for your support.

Children who had 100% attendance in Term 6 will also be able to wear non-uniform on this day.

Meetings are termly and  run from 3:30 to 5:30pm.   An interest in the school and finding out more about the way that the school is managed is the first consideration and if you have any specific skills with budgets or experience with staffing issues you would be particularly welcome.

If you would like further information please speak to Miss Roberts in the office who will either be able to help you or will put you in touch with the Clerk to the Governors to answer any specific questions. Alternatively just come and have a chat with me about the role at the school gates.
We look forward to hearing from you.

The school is almost full but we do have some space available in Year 5. If you know somebody who might need a school place, please ask them to contact the school office.

Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to the last newsletter of this school year. The children have had another great year of learning and friendship. Can I thank you all for your support.
Ofsted Inspection
As you all know a team of Ofsted Inspectors visited the school this week. Can I thank all parents for your tremendous support and thank the children for being enthusiastic learners as always. We will publish inspection findings as soon as we are able.

Year 3 with 98%
Year 6 with 96%
School Shoes
Thank you for the children looking so smart in their school uniform this year.
As you know, children at School of Christ the King are required to wear PLAIN BLACK SHOES. Although we prefer shoes, as an alternative we do accept PLAIN BLACK TRAINERS. However recently, a number of children have been coming to school wearing black trainers with brand markings (e.g stripes or ticks). These types of footwear are not permitted in school.
We do however appreciate that parents would rather buy new school shoes ready for school in September and we are happy to bend the rules until then; as long as children return wearing PLAIN BLACK SHOES in September!
Reading during the summer
Research shows that children who read for 10 minutes a day during the summer holidays make better progress in school than those who don't read. Here are some websites to give ideas and free resources to keep your children reading through the summer, and make the start back in September easier for them:

NSPCC Speak Out. Stay Safe

The NSPCC’s Speak Out. Stay Safe. programme visited our school this week to make sure our pupils have the knowledge and understanding they need to stay safe from abuse.

Dear Parents/Carers,

Leavers Mass 2018

Leavers mass this year is on Wednesday 18th July at 9.30am in the school hall.

Staff changes from September

Mrs Leaker has decided to return to her role as Teaching Assistant, rather than class teacher, as she would like to spend more time with her family. We are really pleased that she is staying with us at Christ the King.

We would like to welcome our new teacher, Miss Kingscote, to Year 3 in September. Many of you will know Miss Kingscote as she has been teaching in Year 1 on her last student placement.

  • Miss Letherby - Reception
  • Mrs Rowland - Year 1
  • Mrs Triggs - Year 2
  • Miss Kingscote - Year 3
  • Mr Searle - Year 4
  • Mr Purser - Year 5
  • Mr Prichard - Year 6

Mrs Gaunt will be joining us as our new Reading Recovery Teacher.

Leave of absence during term time

We must remind all parents that the Headteacher CANNOT authorise any leave of absence during term time unless for exceptional circumstances.  Any requests must be made in writing on a form available from the school office and must be made at least ten days before leave is due to commence.  Any leave taken that has not been considered exceptional will be recorded as unauthorised.  There will be two unauthorised absences recorded for each day - morning and afternoon.  If there are eight or more unauthorised absences recorded within a ten week period, the school can issue a penalty notice.  This will be £60 per child for each parent, meaning a possible penalty charge of £120 per child.

We appreciate that holidays taken during term time can be much cheaper than those taken during the school holidays but we have a legal responsibility to ensure that every child is attending school and receiving their education.

Dear Parents/Carers,
Ofsted Parent View
Parent View is an online facility that allows parents and carers to give their views about their child’s school at any time of the school year. The questionnaire is also the main mechanism for parents to give their views to inspectors about their child’s school at the time of a school inspection.
The questionnaire can be accessed directly at http://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk or from the home page of Ofsted’s website www.ofsted.gov.uk.
We would very much appreciate it if parents are able to share their views about our school with Ofsted using Parent View.
Sports Day
Sports Day will take place on the afternoon of Friday 22nd June at The Park – more details to follow.
Book Fair Dates
The Book Fair will be in school next week and will be open to parents at the following times:

First Holy Communion
Can the governors, staff and pupils of School of Christ the King wish all the children receiving their First Holy Communion on Sunday, a happy and holy day.
BBC Radio Bristol Alive Appeal
BBC Radio Bristol will be visiting the school on Friday 22 June. The radio station is joining forces with the local charity ‘Alive’ for the ‘BBC Radio Bristol Alive Appeal’ and as part of the appeal we are having a sports non-school uniform day. The charity puts on activity sessions in care homes and day centres to bring joy, laughter and fun to older people and tackle the issues of loneliness and isolation. The appeal is aiming to raise £50,000 this year to fund 300 of these activity sessions and to pay for the vital kit which makes that time so special. A presenter from BBC Radio Bristol will report live from the school as part of a special programme being broadcast between 9am and 12pm called ‘The School Run’. To support this special cause we are asking for donations of £1 per child for children to wear their own sports day clothes - these should be sporty clothes that they can wear to sports day.
Parents of Reception children
We would like to invite you to attend weekly drop in sessions. These sessions will take place between 8.40 and 9am on Tuesday mornings each week. During this time you are welcome to come into your child’s class, read with your child and spend time sharing their learning diaries with them. Your children are proud of their achievements in class and would love to share their experiences with you. Miss Letherby and Miss Harvey will also be available to liaise with you and to support you with accessing Tapestry if needed.
Summer  Holiday Chill Time 'Klub'!
We are looking to run a summer club for 2 weeks from 6th August - 10am-3pm. Cost and further details to be confirmed. If you think you may be interested in sending your child to this summer holiday club, please contact the school office. Places are filling up fast. Many thanks.
