Dear Parents and Carers,
Attendance
Congratulations to Year 6 who have once again achieved great attendance - 97.6 this week! Well done!
It’s great to see everyone working so hard to ensure we are improving attendance - thank you for your ongoing support with this.
25 Years of World Book Day - Thursday 3rd March 2022
After half term, we will be celebrating World Book Day by asking children to come to school dressed up as their favourite book character.
We will also be very lucky to have award winning and ‘best seller’ author, Karen George, visiting our school school for the day.
We look forward to spending the day celebrating a love of books and reading with our children.
Collecting children at the end of the school day
Please can we politely remind parents/carers that when they are collecting children from the bottom entrance (car park) at the end of the school day, they should be waiting for them to be dismissed by their class teacher. We understand that there can be a rush to get home at the end of the school day, but to avoid confusion, we would like to ask that you avoid calling your child out of line, and wait patiently for them to be let go by a member of staff.
Equally important, we would like to ask that if someone different will be collecting your child from school, that you let the school office or class teacher know. Safeguarding our children is our uppermost priority and we thank you for your continued support in keeping our school a safe environment.
INSET Days - school closed
A reminder that the next two INSET days will be Monday 28th February and Friday 1st July.
Parent’s Coffee Morning
As you may know, we currently run a coffee morning for parents on a Friday morning. All parents are welcome to join us for a cuppa, and not only is it a great opportunity to meet other parents and engage in the school community, it's also a great chance to talk to school staff about any concerns you may have around things that are happening at school or at home.
During the school week, we understand that it might be difficult to get in touch with your child’s teacher or other members of staff, so Coffee Morning is a perfect way to make contact with someone in school who will be able to support you.
Coffee Morning runs every Friday from 9.00am
Chill Club Booking
Please can parents/carers be reminded that bookings for Chill Time Klub should be made before 12pm. Occasionally there may be an exceptional circumstance that means you need to book your child in to Chill unexpectedly - should this happen, we will always try to accommodate your child however there may be times that we are unable to support this. Due to staffing and health and safety regulations, we can only allow 30 children to attend at one time.
Footwear and Uniform
A polite reminder that children should only be wearing plain black trainers or shoes to school. This includes laces, and we would like to ask for any embellishments (buckles, buttons, etc.) to be black or as minimal as possible. We have recently noticed a large number of children coming to school wearing various styles of boots, with extreme buckles, tassels and other excessive embellishments - these are not school uniform and should not be worn to school.
Summer Chill
We are looking at the possibility of running an all day Chill Club for two weeks across the summer holiday period.
The sessions would run from 10am - 3pm and would be available to any children in Reception - Year 5.
Dates and costs for these sessions are yet to be confirmed, however if you think this is something your child would like to take part in, please contact the school office to register your interest.

We would like to remind you that, where possible, these clubs should be booked and paid for using the School Gateway app.
This term, we have had a number of parents booking clubs through the school office, and while this is okay from time to time, it means that payments for these sessions are often not being made in a timely manner. Whilst we want to ensure that all of our pupils have the opportunity to attend our clubs, we cannot guarantee spaces in sessions if payment has not been made.
If you are still having difficulties accessing the School Gateway App, or have any other concerns about booking onto, or paying for school clubs, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to support you with this.

Dear Parents and Carers,
Attendance
ANOTHER AMAZING WEEK!
Well done to the following classes who have achieved at least 97% attendance this week:
- Year 1 - 97%
- Year 4 - 99%
- 5R - 97%
- Year 6 - 99%
It’s great to see you all working so hard to make sure you're here every day, on time! Keep up the good work!
To encourage excellent attendance we are going to reintroduce special non-uniform days when classes get 99 or 100% attendance. This means that Year 4 and Year 6 (again) will get special non-uniform days soon. The teachers will decide which day and send out a text to parents to let you all know.
Inappropriate Content
As you are aware, safeguarding and E-safety are among our highest priorities at School of Christ the King. It has come to our attention this week that some of our pupils have been viewing content on television or online that is inappropriate for their age. This often filters into school and can cause conflicts on the playground and distraction in class.
We would like to ask parents to monitor what their children are viewing, both online and via streaming services. Age ratings are put in place on programming to keep children safe, and we would like to work with parents to ensure that children are not accessing content that could be damaging to both their mental and physical health.
Where available, we recommend setting up parental controls to ensure children are only able to access content that is suitable for them.
Summer Chill
We are looking at the possibility of running an all day Chill Club for two weeks across the summer holiday period.
The sessions would run from 10am - 3pm and would be available to any children in Reception - Year 5.

Anyone who tests positive will be able to leave self-isolation seven days after the date of their initial positive test if they receive two negative lateral flow test results, 24 hours apart, on days six and seven. If you test positive, your self-isolation period includes the day your symptoms started (or the day you had the test, if you do not have symptoms) and the next 10 full days.
If you get symptoms while you're self-isolating, the 10 days restarts from the day after your symptoms started.
When to stop self-isolating
You can stop self-isolating after 7 days if you do a rapid lateral flow test on days 6 and 7 of your self-isolation period and:
- both tests are negative
- you did both tests at least 24 hours apart
- you do not have a high temperature
If you stop self-isolating on or after day 7, it's important that you take steps to reduce the chance of passing COVID-19 to others. This means you should:
- work from home if you can
- wear a face covering in shops, on public transport and when it's hard to stay away from other people – particularly indoors, in crowded places or where there is not much fresh air
- limit contact with people at higher risk of serious illness from COVID-19
- follow advice on how to avoid catching and spreading COVID-19
You can stop self-isolating after the 10 days if either:
- you do not have any symptoms
- you just have a cough or changes to your sense of smell or taste – these can last for weeks after the infection has gone
When to keep self-isolating after 10 days
If you have a high temperature after the 10 days, or are feeling unwell, keep self-isolating and seek medical advice.

If a child is a close contact to a person with a positive COVID result
In school, adults who are fully vaccinated and all children and young people aged between 5 and 18 years and 6 months identified as a contact of someone with COVID-19 are strongly advised to take a LFD test every day for 7 days and continue to attend their setting as normal, unless they have a positive test result.
Winter Wellness
This time of year can be challenging for the mental health of us all, including our children and young people, especially with the added pressures of Covid this year.
The Safeguarding in Education team have sent us some fantastic resources to share with families this year, to help make the winter break a little less stressful - from ‘14 Ways To Be Kind’ to ‘Christmas Recipes for Kids’, there’s plenty of excellent guides and advice available.
Check out Survive & Thrive This Winter for the resources.
Uniform Reminder
Can we politely remind parents and carers that children should be coming to school in the appropriate uniform.
Children should wear the following uniform:
- PLAIN BLACK SHOES
- grey / black trousers or skirts – no leggings or tracksuit bottoms
- red sweatshirt or cardigan or fleece
- white / red polo shirts
- PE Kit (which is plain white t-shirt / plain black shorts and PE daps or trainers)
Booking and Paying for School Clubs
As you know we currently run a Breakfast Club and various afterschool activities for pupils.
New After School Clubs
A reminder of our new after school clubs, are continuing:
- Wednesday Years 3-5 - Basketball
- Wednesday Year 5 - Art (every fortnight - see below for further details)
- Thursday Years 1 and 2 - Multi Sports (focussing on balls skills, including Netball & Basketball)
- Friday Year 6 - Archery
These clubs are being offered as part of paid after school provision, which is £2 for clubs until 4pm. Please book as soon as possible, to guarantee your child’s place. If you would like your child to attend Chill, after their club, the total charge is £3.50. Your child can then attend Chill until 4:30pm.
