Parent Governor Vacancy

As I am sure you are aware, all schools have a Governing Body who support the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team in their endeavours to make this school an outstanding establishment where all children thrive.

We now have a vacancy on our Governing Body for a Parent Governor.  All parents are eligible to apply for this voluntary role and we would ask you to contact the school office if you would like your name to be put forward.

Meetings typically start at 3:30 or 4pm and finish between 5 or 5.30pm.   An interest in the school and finding out more about the way that the school is managed is the first consideration and if you have any specific skills with budgets or experience with staffing issues you would be particularly welcome.

If you would like further information please speak to Miss Morse In the office who will either be able to help you or will put you in touch with the Clerk to the Governors to answer any specific questions. Alternatively just come and have a chat with me about the role at the school gates.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Staff News

We are sad to share the news that Miss Kingscote, one of our Year 5 teachers, will be leaving us at Christmas as she is relocating to Wiltshire. We are however very happy that Miss Owers, who is already a well established part of the team as an Academic Mentor, will take on the role of class teacher in January. Miss Kingscote and Miss Owers are already working together to plan a smooth and positive transition for the children and a settled return to school in January.

Reception Applications

If you have a child that was born between 1st September 2017 and 31st August 2018, or you know someone that does, admissions are now open for Reception Class applications.

We are very proud of our Reception Class, and our Early Years Team works very hard to create a welcoming and exciting environment for our new pupils.

Applications close on 15th January 2022 and we will be holding open events on the following dates:

  • Thursday 9th December  - 2.30pm and 4.30pm
  • Monday 10th January  - 9.30am and 4.30pm

If you would like to attend one of these open sessions, please contact the school office to book a space.  Each session will take about 30 minutes. If you would like to arrange a visit, but are unable to make one of the above sessions, please contact the office to arrange an alternative time.

Parking

Please can we politely remind parents that they should be observing the road markings outside the school during drop-off and pick-up times. Parents should NOT be parking on the zig-zag lines, or parking in the bus/loading bay as this not only causes congestion on the road, but is also a danger to pedestrians.

We have had a number of complaints from parents recently who have not been able to safely cross the road with their children, or who have been caught in unnecessary traffic caused by inconsiderate parking  - if this continues, we may have to get our local PCSO involved.

Thank you for your cooperation with this issue.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Congratulations to our 5 Star Kitchen!

This week our school kitchen was visited by the Environmental Health Team to carry out their annual inspection. We are pleased to inform you that our kitchen has been rated 5 Stars for food hygiene and safety!!

Congratulations to our kitchen team for their continued hard work.

Photographs on Facebook

As you know, we currently use Facebook to promote our school and keep parents informed of what’s been happening throughout the school day. We love sharing photographs of the wonderful work our pupils have been doing, however we currently have a number of parents who have not given consent for photographs to be used  - this may be through your own choice or simply a forgotten tick box on a form!

We would like to be able to include as many pupils as possible in the photographs we use, so if you would like to give consent for your child’s photograph to be used on Facebook, or even update your consent options, please call into the school office to let us know.

Curriculum Information

In preparation for the upcoming parents’ evening, we are publishing overviews of each classes current curriculum on the school website (Years 1-6) -

https://sites.google.com/a/ctk.education/www/learning/our-curriculum

These overviews will shadow you what your child is learning each term.

Attendance

Well done to the following classes who had attendance at over 97% this week:

  • Year 3 with 97% attendance.
  • Year 6 with 97% attendance.

O uwagę naszych polskich prelegentów

Please help! We have a growing number of Polish families joining our community and it has become increasingly important for us to learn some Polish words and phrases related to school. Do we have a parent who feels they would be able to run a regular, short Polish lesson for staff after school on a Wednesday? We would be very grateful for your help! Please speak with Mrs Jordan if this is something you feel you may be able to do with us.

Parents’ Evening - Date Change

Parents’ Evening will now be held on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th of October. This will take place in school. From Monday, please phone the school office to book your appointment.

If your child is in Year 6 and you need help completing their Secondary school application, please speak with Mrs Selway or Mrs Jordan on parents evening - you will need access to an email address to do this.

Friday Morning Coffee Time

Mrs Selway is hosting informal drop-in sessions each Friday morning 9-9.30am. This time will enable parents/carers to meet up and perhaps seek support and advice. Mrs Selway can offer advice and also provide links to other organisations who offer support. If you have a worry of any kind, or just would like to have a chat with other parents and carers  - pop in!

Use of e-scooters

At the moment, electric scooters can only be used on private land. It is effectively illegal to use them on public roads, on pavements, in cycle lanes and in pedestrian-only areas. Electric scooters are currently classed as ‘powered transporters’ by the government and fall under the same laws and regulations that apply to all motor vehicles. This means that you need a driving licence to use them away from private land.

Secondary School Applications

Secondary school applications must be submitted by 31st October 2021. Please follow the link for information on how to support your child’s application submission.

If your child is in Year 6 and you need help completing their Secondary school application, please speak with Mrs Selway or Mrs Jordan on parents evening - you will need access to an email address to do this.

Places Available

We currently have places available in Reception, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 5. If you know somebody who might need a school place, please ask them to contact the school office.

Parking

It has been really positive that our local Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) have been in attendance, recently at the start and end of the school day. They have informed us that if they witness parking on the zig zags or loading bays, registrations will be taken and warnings given. Following this, fines will be issued. We thank all parents who take care to park carefully and safely.

Payment for Clubs on the School Gateway App

We have previously asked parents and carers to make a minimum payment of £7 on the School Gateway App. This is because the school has to pay a transaction fee for every payment made. We do very much appreciate it if parents and carers can pay in larger amounts in advance (building up credit) as it helps us keep costs down, however we also understand if this is not possible due to managing family finances on a day-to- day basis.

To use the School Gateway App, the office needs your email address on the system All sessions must be booked online using the School Gateway app by 7.30am at the latest, for each day being booked. If you have any difficulties accessing the School Gateway app, please contact the school office after 10am.

Breakfast Club for Nursery Children

We are now pleased to offer a limited number of spaces at Breakfast Club for Nursery Children. Due to the  need for a higher level of staff supervision needed, each Nursery Breakfast Club place will cost £3 per child.

Chill Time Klub for Nursery Children

We are now pleased to offer a limited number of spaces at Chill Time Klub for Nursery Children. Due to the  need for a higher level of staff supervision needed, each Nursery Chill Time Club place will cost £5 per child.

Mini Chill Klub

As soon as we are able to organise appropriate staffing, we are hoping to launch a “Mini Chill Klub” for any parents that struggle to collect their children on time but do not need a full Chill Time Klub session. This will run from 3.15-3.45. The children can wait and read a book until they are collected at a charge of £1, this will need to be booked.
