Dear Parents/Carers,
Thank you all for a wonderful start to the new school year!
We hope you all had a really good summer break and it was great to see all the children today looking smart in their school uniforms and with most children arriving at school by 8.50am, ready for learning.
Attendance
Term 6 100% Attendance -
As you are aware, each term we have a 100% attendance presentation when each class will have a special draw where children can win a new storybook. We enter all children with 100% attendance and who have no more than 2 late arrivals to school. The next attendance assembly will be on Wednesday 11th September.
Children who had 100% attendance in Term 6 will also be able to wear non-uniform on this day.
This week -
Well done to the following classes who had attendance at over 97% this week:
Year 2 - 99%
Year 4 - 97%
This means Year 2 will have a special non uniform day on Friday 13th September.
Head teacher awards
The Headteacher awards for Monday 9th September are: Justin (Y1), Frankie (Y2), Benji HH (Y3), Archie (Y4), Patrick (Y5) and Kash and Lewis (Y6).

Multisports for Year 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6 started this week. Years 3 & 4 is every Thursday and Years 5 & 6 every Friday. Your child needs to pay at £1.00 to the school office each week if they wish to attend.
Parent Governor Vacancy
As I am sure you are aware, all schools have a Governing Body who support the Headteacher and the Senior Leadership Team in their endeavours to make this school an outstanding establishment where all children thrive.
We now have a vacancy on our Governing Body for a Parent Governor. All parents are eligible to apply for this voluntary role and we would ask you to contact the school office if you would like your name to be put forward.
Meetings are termly and run from 3:30 to 5:30pm. An interest in the school and finding out more about the way that the school is managed is the first consideration and if you have any specific skills with budgets or experience with staffing issues you would be particularly welcome.
If you would like further information please speak to Miss Roberts in the office who will either be able to help you or will put you in touch with the Clerk to the Governors to answer any specific questions. Alternatively just come and have a chat with me about the role at the school gates.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Parents/Carers,
Welcome to the last newsletter of this school year. The children have had another great year of learning and friendship. Can I again thank you all for your support.
Celebrating Great 100% Attendance
As you are aware, School of Christ the King is giving a high priority to improving attendance and punctuality. A number of initiatives have been implemented in the school, to raise both pupil and parent awareness of this issue and the benefits of good attendance.
Well done to the following children who got 100% attendance and were presented with a special prize today:-
Alfie, Maiella, Amelia, Grace, Aaliyah, Justin Tristian, Taylor, Chris, Jayden, Dylan, Finley, Ella, Gabby, Mikolaj, Chloe and Bradley.
Recent figures show very positive news about improvements in attendance over time. Over the last 4 years attendance has improved each year from 94.3% to 95.7%. This may not seem like a big difference, but the improvement of 1.4% means:
School Shoes
Thank you for the children looking so smart in their school uniforms this year.
As you know, children at School of Christ the King are required to wear PLAIN BLACK SHOES. Although we prefer shoes, as an alternative we do accept PLAIN BLACK TRAINERS. However recently, a number of children have been coming to school wearing black trainers with brand markings (e.g stripes or ticks). These types of footwear are not permitted in school.
We do however appreciate that parents would rather buy new school shoes ready for school in September and we are happy to bend the rules until then; as long as children return wearing PLAIN BLACK SHOES in September!
Reading during the summer
Research shows that children who read for 10 minutes a day during the summer holidays make better progress in school than those who don't read. Here are some websites to give ideas and free resources to keep your children reading through the summer, and make the start back in September easier for them:
INSET (Staff Training Day) in September
The school will be closed on the first day of the new academic year (Monday 2nd September). This mean that the new school year will begin on Tuesday 3rd September.
Key dates
Monday 23rd July - INSET Day (school closed)
Tuesday 24th July - INSET Day (school closed)

- Our overall attendance is now in line with national figures for primary schools.
- Attendance is now above Bristol overall attendance.
- Overall children are in school an incredible 545 extra days extra across the year compared to 4 years ago.
- This is the same as an average of 2 ½ days of school per child compared to 4 year ago.

Dear Parents/Carers,
Lent Charity Fundraising
Well done everybody for raising an incredible £1131 during Lent this year.
Book Fair
Next week the book fair will be open 2.30-30pm, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
First Holy Communion
Can the governors, staff and pupils of School of Christ the King wish all the children receiving their First Holy Communion on Sunday, a happy and holy day.
Mr Searle
We would like to let you all know that Mr Searle has decided to take retirement at the end of the school year, when we will be thanking him for his hard work and dedication. He will be greatly missed.
DON’T MISS OUT! Christ the King’s production of ‘Captain Hook’s Revenge’
The children in Year 4 and 6 are currently rehearsing for our big Summer show.
We are expecting a large audience and have decided that it will be performed on two occasions – Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th of July at 3:30pm.
As Year 4 and Year 6 have major parts, tickets will be sold to their parents and carers first- available to purchase from the school office on Monday 23rd June. Initially we have limited tickets to four per family. After Friday 28th June tickets will go on sale to the rest of the school. (Tickets are available from the office from Monday at a price of £1 per ticket, this money will be spent on new books for each class)
Leave of Absence During Term Time
We must remind all parents that the Headteacher CANNOT authorise any leave of absence during term time unless for exceptional circumstances. Any requests must be made in writing on a form available from the school office and must be made at least ten days before the leave is due to commence. Any leave taken that has not been considered exceptional will be recorded as unauthorised. There will be two unauthorised absences recorded for each day - morning and afternoon. If there are eight or more unauthorised absences recorded within a ten week period, the school can issue a penalty notice. This will be £60 per child for each parent, meaning a possible penalty charge of £120 per child.
We appreciate that holidays taken during term time can be much cheaper than those taken during the school holidays but we have a legal responsibility to ensure that every child is attending school and receiving their education.
Medical Appointments
The start and end of the school day is very important and it has become noticeable that children are being collected early for different appointments. Please can you make these appointments for out of school hours.
When there is an unavoidable appointment, we will request evidence to authorise the absence.
