Dear Parents/Carers,
Book-Tastic Book Fair
Congratulations to everyone for such brilliant support at our book fair. As a result of books purchased we have managed to raise a magnificent £785.11 which will be shared between the classes and spent directly on books for your children to enjoy.
A huge thank you goes to you all for showing such commitment and interest in our children’s learning.
Staff changes from September
As announced earlier, Mr Searle has decided to take retirement at the end of the school year.
Miss Gaunt, our Reading Recovery Teacher, will sadly be leaving us in September. We wish her luck in her new Reading Recovery role in Berkshire.
Mr Tuck, Teaching Assistant in Learning Hub 2 and Key Stage 2, is moving on to begin training as a Speech and Language Therapist.
Mrs Triggs we will be working 3 days a week from September. This means she will be sharing her teaching duties with Mrs Leaker. Mr Purser will be stepping up as acting Deputy Headteacher on the days Mrs Triggs is not in school.
Mrs Meacham (Jane), Cleaner, will be leaving on the 12th July and Miss Sheppard will be joining the cleaning team.
Here is the class teacher structure from September:
Sports Day - Wednesday 3rd July 1pm The Park, Daventry Road
The children will wear their PE kit (black/blue shorts and white t-shirt) and trainers or daps to school. All children will need a water bottle.
All the children will be walking with the staff to the Park to start at about 1pm. Once the races are finished parents/carers can collect their children and take them home from The Park. Children can only be collected by adults that usually collect them from school.
If parents/carers are unable to attend sport’s day these children will walk back to school with staff and be ready at 3.15pm.
If the weather is either very hot or it is raining there maybe changes to the arrangements and these will be sent by text during the morning.

Dear Parents/Carers,
Lent Charity Fundraising
Well done everybody for raising an incredible £1131 during Lent this year.
Book Fair
Next week the book fair will be open 2.30-30pm, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
First Holy Communion
Can the governors, staff and pupils of School of Christ the King wish all the children receiving their First Holy Communion on Sunday, a happy and holy day.
Mr Searle
We would like to let you all know that Mr Searle has decided to take retirement at the end of the school year, when we will be thanking him for his hard work and dedication. He will be greatly missed.
DON’T MISS OUT! Christ the King’s production of ‘Captain Hook’s Revenge’
The children in Year 4 and 6 are currently rehearsing for our big Summer show.
We are expecting a large audience and have decided that it will be performed on two occasions – Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th of July at 3:30pm.
As Year 4 and Year 6 have major parts, tickets will be sold to their parents and carers first- available to purchase from the school office on Monday 23rd June. Initially we have limited tickets to four per family. After Friday 28th June tickets will go on sale to the rest of the school. (Tickets are available from the office from Monday at a price of £1 per ticket, this money will be spent on new books for each class)
Leave of Absence During Term Time
We must remind all parents that the Headteacher CANNOT authorise any leave of absence during term time unless for exceptional circumstances. Any requests must be made in writing on a form available from the school office and must be made at least ten days before the leave is due to commence. Any leave taken that has not been considered exceptional will be recorded as unauthorised. There will be two unauthorised absences recorded for each day - morning and afternoon. If there are eight or more unauthorised absences recorded within a ten week period, the school can issue a penalty notice. This will be £60 per child for each parent, meaning a possible penalty charge of £120 per child.
We appreciate that holidays taken during term time can be much cheaper than those taken during the school holidays but we have a legal responsibility to ensure that every child is attending school and receiving their education.
Medical Appointments
The start and end of the school day is very important and it has become noticeable that children are being collected early for different appointments. Please can you make these appointments for out of school hours.
When there is an unavoidable appointment, we will request evidence to authorise the absence.

Dear Parents/Carers,
Well Done Everybody for Improved Attendance!
Our recent census showed some very positive news about improvements in attendance over time. Over the last 4 years attendance has improved each year from 94.3% to 95.7%. This may not seem like a big difference, but the improvement of 1.4% means:
- Our overall attendance is now in line with national figures for primary schools.
- Attendance is now above Bristol overall attendance.
- Overall children are in school an incredible 545 extra days extra across the year compared to 4 years ago.
- This is the same as an average of 2 ½ days of school per child compared to 4 year ago.
WELL DONE EVERYONE!
Also well done to the following class who had attendance at over 97%:
- Year 2 = 99%
This means that Year 2 will have non-uniform on Friday 7th June.

Dear Parents/Carers,
School Funding - a Request for Help
Did you know that the Government calculates part of our school funding based on the number of pupils that have a school meal on Census Day?
Help us maximise our funding by encouraging your child to have a school meal on Thursday 16th May, when the main menu will be fish and chips.
As always, we appreciate your support.
Pupil Health and Well-being Survey
We would like to share a few key statements from a recent survey completed in January by our Year 5 and 6 pupils. The results were positive, informative and in line with recent inspection findings. They also direct us towards the continual updating of our health and well-being curriculum.
A few of the survey findings are as follows (The figure in brackets represents other Bristol schools):
School
Health
Year 6 SATs Breakfast Club
The Year 6 children will have a Breakfast Club starting at 8am for the week of SATs tests from 13th May. In the past, this has proven to be good for the children and has helped them to get the best results possible.
Our Year 6 children and their teachers have worked incredibly hard and we wish them a happy and successful week.
Parking Outside School
Please do not park in the loading bay when dropping or collecting your children from school. If a traffic enforcement car drove past you could still be liable to a fine. The loading bays are for coaches, mini buses or deliveries.
INSET Days - School Closed
Our last two INSET (staff training) days have now been confirmed as Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th June.
The first day of the new academic year (Monday 2nd September 2019) will also be an INSET (school closed). This means that Tuesday 3rd September will be the start of the academic year for children.
