Christ the King Culture Day – A message from Ope in Year 6

When we dig deeper into the culture hidden in Christ the King, we discover that we have a wide range of children from many different cultures.  Because of this, we have decided to celebrate these different cultures by putting on a day called Culture Day.  Culture Day will be on Wednesday 6th July – the day where we all learn about different countries, cultures and traditions. More details will be shared soon.

Extended School Clubs – Breakfast and After School

Thank you for those parents who have expressed an interest in the extended school clubs.  A letter will be sent home to those parents with more information.  If you would be interested in the extended club and have not yet registered your interest, please contact Kath Roberts in the School Office.

Extended School Clubs – Breakfast and After School (a last reminder as so far interest is low)

We are considering introducing a breakfast club and after school club. Firstly, we need to see if there is a need from parents for this childcare. There will be a cost per child to use these clubs, which we would keep to a minimum whilst covering costs.  If you would be interested in using these clubs, please let Kath Roberts in the school office know.
Staff Training Days

We are planning to use the first two days of the new school year in September as staff training days. This means the new school year will start for children on Monday 5th September, 2016.

We still have one more training day to announce, which will be in the summer term. This will be announced very soon.

Lost property

There is a lot of lost property in the school.  It will be placed outside today and Monday, please come and look for any items that might belong to your child.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Year 6 SATs week

A big well done to our Year 6 who have worked with resilience and good humour this week in their end of Year 6 assessments. Also a big thank you to the staff who have worked so hard to support and prepare the children for these tests and a big thank you to you, their parents for your support. It’s been a very positive week and I am very proud of everybody.

Parking

Please DO NOT park on the zigzag lines as this causes danger to the children when crossing the road.

These lines (including the loading bay) are enforceable. This means that Bristol City Council are using mobile cameras to photograph vehicles that are parked illegally and will be issuing fines. We have been asked to contact the enforcement department with details of vehicles parked (or stopping) illegally.

Medical Appointments

The start and end of the school day is very important and it has become noticeable that children are being collected early for different appointments. Please can you make these appointments for out of school hours.

When there is an unavoidable appointment, we will request evidence to authorise the absence.

Year 6 Camp Meeting

There will be a meeting on Tuesday 17thMay at 2:45pm for all Year 6 Parents whose children are attending camp on the 10th June.

Extended School Clubs – Breakfast and After School

We are considering introducing breakfast club and after school club. Firstly, we need to see if there is a need from parents for this childcare. Now that we have seen the sun over the last couple of days, please can I remind you that children should have suntan lotion applied before they come to school.  It is also important that children bring water bottles in to school each day.

·         Reception with 98%
·         Year 1 with 98%
·         Year 5 with 97%

Dear Parents and Carers,

Year 6 SATs Breakfast Club

The Year 6 children will have a Breakfast Club starting at 8am for the week of SATs tests from 9thMay.  In the past, this has proven to be good for the children and has helped them to get the best results possible.

Extended School Clubs – Breakfast and After School

We are considering introducing breakfast club and after school club. Firstly, we need to see if there is a need from parents for this childcare. There will be a cost per child to use these clubs, which we would keep to a minimum whilst covering costs.  If you would be interested in using these clubs, please let Kath Roberts in the school office know.

Lateness

Today there were lots of children late for school. School starts promptly at starts at 8.50am.

Staff Training Days

We are planning to use the first two days of the new school year in September as staff training days. This means the new school year will start for children on Monday 5th September, 2016.

Collecting Children Early

The end of the school day is very important and it has become noticeable that children are being collected early for different appointments. Please can you make these appointments for out of school hours.

Hot Weather

Now that we have seen the sun over the last couple of days, please can I remind you that children should have suntan lotion applied before they come to School.  It is also important that children bring water bottles in to school each day.

Celebration Assembly

The next Celebration Assembly will be on Monday 9th May at 9am, where the following children will receive their Headteacher's Award: Ian (R) ,Olly B (Y1), Kenzie S (Y2), Zimra (Y3), Namussewene (Y4), Karen K (Y5), Milly (Y6).

AN IMPORTANT REMINDER about Attendance – Holidays and Long Weekends

It is highly unlikely that the school is able to authorise an absence due to holiday. Absences can only be authorised in exceptional circumstances.

Due to government guidance, the school is expected to take action when children have 8 or more unauthorised sessions (4 days). This would normally be in the form of a fine of £60 per child per adult.

So where children have been on holiday in the current year or the previous year, or their attendance is low, it is very likely that we will issue a fine if there are 8 unauthorised sessions.

Can I remind you, as the weather begins to improve, children should not be taken out of school on Mondays or Fridays for long weekends (unless there are exceptional circumstances and it has been agreed in advance).

I promise that we do not want to issue fines, but will have no choice where authorised attendance falls below the expected level.

Attendance! Attendance! Attendance!

Well done to the following class who had attendance at over 97% this week:

·         Reception with 97%
·         Year 2 with 98%
·         Year 5 with 97%
·         Year 6 with 99%

This means Year 6 will have a special non-uniform day on Friday 13th May.
